SIMULATORS, SIMULATORS, SIMULATORS
As simulators have become more affordable and popular,we have seen an influx of simulators in new establishments, homes and garages.
For recreational golfers, playing Pebble Beach on a
simulator with your group is the 'fix' for those who live
in the cold and snow.
For the golfer who wants to improve during the off
season, the simulator can be frustrating, confusing
and / or overwhelming. There is so so so much
data ball speed, spin, smash factor, face angle, path
just to name a few.
As a teaching professional, I suggest you first work
with a teacher who can talk and walk you and your
swing through what the data means and the data that
YOU should focus your attention to measure
improvement. Example, if you slice the ball 2 fairways
off course, you need to focus on path and / or face.
The teacher will even narrow it to either path or face.
You can use the 'trial and experiment' method on your
own to 'get a closer number' on the simulatator.
Experimentation adds to the confusion. We ask
ourselves 'what did I do'? Oh well, I try this this time.
A golfer who wants to improve needs
to understand 'cause and effect'. A teaching
professional can identify the'cause' and create an
effective drill to correctthe flaw. After doing the drill (s)
then validate using the appropriate data to track
progress.
If using the simulator to improve your game, the
teaching professional is crucial in the process.
